I'm 31 years old and have been married for 2 1/2 years. I was born in MN but call NJ home since I spent most of my life there. I like to think that I am a diversified individual but I'm thinking this blog may change some of my views.

What is Critical Thinking?

My definition of critical thinking is: a type of thinking that you do to be objective on any given topic. I have heard this term used before in school and even in conversations with my husband, but I'm not quite sure if I am using the correct ways of "critical thinking".

According to dictionary.com, critical thinking is:
disciplined thinking that is clear, rational, open-minded, and informed by evidence.

The "expert" here hasn't identified a specific process in order to engage in critical thinking, although it seems that it should not include opinion.

I think that critical thinking and IM204 are connected in the sense that we are going to be addressing topics that we might have an opinion about. But are here to research these topics with an open-mind and are to find facts, not just provide our opinions.

  1. Hi Amanda,

Thank you for your post. There are many different definitions, elements, and processes of critical thinking, so there really is no single answer.

It is true that in IM 204 we will be learning how to do research on a topic with minimum bias. We will be using many different critical thinking skills in order to do this.

    See you in tonight's class!
    Sincerely,
    Professor Wexelbaum
